At the High Court in London arrived in the morning o prince harrywho will testify under oath (from 10.30 local) to case to examine the charges against the MGN group which publishes the Daily Mirror to trap and track celebrity phones.
The Duke of Sussex is the lead plaintiff against the publishing group. He argues that at least 147 publications from 1996 to 2010 with details about his personal life he can’t help but were based on intercepted communications.
The court has been focusing its attention since Monday on 33 of those reports, from the Daily and Sunday Mirror, as well as the People newspaper.
Among other things, they relate to an injury Harry suffered playing rugby, a fight with his brother William and many details of his relationship and travels with his ex-girlfriend Chelsea Davy.
A sensation was caused by the claim of Prince Harry’s lawyer that the Mirror monitored Princess Diana’s phone in conversations he had in 1997 with the popular comedian Michael Barrymore, wanting to help him in a personal crisis.
Defense lawyers for the MGN group rejected the claims of the opponents, calling them “speculation”.
Advocates for the publishing group have called for Prince Harry’s testimony to be extended halfway through Wednesday’s proceedings.
The Duke of Sussex becomes the first member of the royal family to testify in court since 1891.
The then Prince of Wales Edward, son of Queen Victoria, had been called to testify in relation to cases of adultery and gambling.
