It is the 11th time a Chinese navy vessel has entered Japan’s territorial waters since February, Tokyo said
New diplomatic tension between Japan and China. A Chinese naval research vessel entered Japan’s “territorial waters” near islands off Kagoshima on Thursday, Japan’s defense ministry said.
Since February this year, it is the 11th time a Chinese navy vessel has entered Japan’s territorial waters, the ministry said on Twitter.
Japan “expressed its strong concern and submitted a diplomatic protest to China regarding the recent invasion,” it said.
“These Chinese naval activities are a national security concern. The Self-Defense Forces resolutely protect Japan’s land, territorial waters and airspace,” the ministry also said.
In recent years, Chinese ships have often entered Japan’s territorial waters or passed through nearby areas, particularly near the Senkaku Islands located in the East China Sea.
On June 8, it was confirmed that a Chinese Navy Shupang-class survey ship sailed through Japan’s territorial waters near Yakushima Island.
