Pope Francis is recovering after the bowel surgery he underwent yesterday Wednesday at the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome. This afternoon, he “broke protocol”, as is his wont, and asked his colleagues to give him the mobile phone.

Next, he called the mother of little Miguel Angel, the child he had baptized two months ago in the same hospital, during his previous admission, due to acute bronchitis.

The little boy, of Peruvian origin, was hospitalized at the Catholic polyclinic after falling from a child seat.

At noon, Miguel Ángel’s mother had gone to the Gemelli hospital to thank Pope Francis, wish him a speedy recovery and leave him photos of her family with the dedication “may you quickly regain all your strength”.

“We would love to spend an afternoon together so you can get to know our family better because now you are part of our lives,” wrote the Latin American mother.

Although she was unable to meet Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church called her shortly afterwards to thank her and promise that, barring the unexpected, they would meet again soon.
