The perpetrator of the hostage-taking that took place yesterday in a synagogue in Texas has been identified by the American authorities.
Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old British national, was shot dead when the last of four people he held hostage in the synagogue for 10 hours was released.
The operation was carried out by an FBI SWAT team.
According to the AP, Akram made a live broadcast on Facebook during the hostage-taking, during which he demanded the release of a Pakistani neuroscientist convicted of attempting to kill a US army in Afghanistan. Τ
The FBI and police declined to comment on questions about who shot Akram when the altercation ended.
It is estimated that the perpetrator had no accomplices.
The perpetrator’s details had already been made known by international media reports earlier, with the authorities now officially confirming the existing information.
It is recalled that US President Joe Biden said that a gunman who interrupted a religious service in a synagogue in Coleville, Texas on Saturday and took four people hostage, committed an “act of terrorism.”
