Matteo Piandedozzi noted that “we must block human traffickers, work to defeat them”
The Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Piandendozzihe said, in his statements to the television channel Skytg24in the tragic shipwreck off the Peloponnese. In more detail, the Italian minister stated:
“In the Peloponnese, a great tragedy took place which causes us pain, as happened with similar ones in the past. I hope they never happen again, but I don’t think they will.
But this makes us all the more determined on the path we are on: to block human traffickers, to work to defeat them. We can do it together with Europe. The rules approved in the past few days are going in the right direction”.
The Italian minister added that the shipwreck took place in the Greek search and rescue area, but emphasized that “this does not mean that Greece is responsible, it just describes specific areas of responsibility».
Also, referring to the relations with Libya, he added that the cooperation with Europe must be broad, not only on the issue of security.
“All efforts will follow the direction leading to the limitation of departures from the countries of northern Africa, departures organized by traffickers“, concluded Piandedozzi.
