The phrase “God save the Queen” (God save the Queen) used by US President Joe Biden, concluding his speech yesterday on restricting gun ownership in Connecticut, caused various comments on social media.

Addressing the crowd gathered in West Hartford to watch his speech, he explained that he could not linger to greet the participants, adding that he would pose for some commemorative photos.

“Okay; God save the queen, man,” Biden, 80, said before turning his gaze toward the exit.

A White House spokesman said the president “addressed someone in the crowd,” without elaborating.

But even if Biden was indeed addressing a British person, it would be a blunder to use the phrase “God save the Queen”, given that the British throne is now occupied by King Charles III, not Queen Elizabeth II – at the funeral which was attended by the American president.

As expected, the clip from President Biden’s speech went viral on social media and was mixed with comments from Republican supporters.

“Joe Biden has lost it,” commented Leo Terrell on Fox News.

There are not a few Americans who believe that, due to his advanced age, Biden should not run for a second presidential term, since – if he is re-elected – he will be 86 years old at the end of it.
