The US Secretary of State emphasized that China offered assurances about Russia but did not hide its concern about equipment that may be sent by Chinese companies.
The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said today from Beijing where he is that China has renewed promises that will not send arms to Russia in order to strengthen Russian defenses in the war with Ukraine, although he expressed concern about the actions of private Chinese companies, the French agency points out.
“We – and other countries – have received assurances from China that it does not and will not provide lethal aid to Russia to be used in the war in Ukraine. We have seen no evidence to contradict this. However, what we have ongoing concerns about are Chinese companies that may be providing technology that Russia can use to further its aggression in Ukraine.”
“We have asked the Chinese government to be very careful about this,” added the US Secretary of Defense.
Blinken stressed that China had offered assurances about Russia in “recent weeks” and not just during his visit to Beijing.
