The head of the US Coast Guard Jamie Frederick announced to the media that US and Canadian aircraft have “scanned” more than 25,900 square kilometers of sea to locate the tourist submarine that has been missing since last Sunday afternoon while approaching the wreck of the Titanic in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Titanic wreck is located 1,450 km east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and 644 km south of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

According to the Guardian, the ship Polar Prince of Canada is conducting surface searches along with a Canadian Boeing P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, the Associated Press reports.

The Canadian military dropped sonar to listen for any sounds from the Titan submarine. Also, an underwater robot is searching the area.

Two US Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft were making overflights.

To aid the search, three C-17 transports flew the submarine and support equipment from Buffalo to St. John’s.

A Royal Canadian Navy ship carrying a medical team specializing in diving medicine and a six-person mobile hyperbaric recompression chamber was also en route today.
