For new elections with full participation, Josep Borel called after the negotiations that took place in Brussels with Albin Kurti and Aleksandar Vucic.

More specifically, the meetings of the EU High Representative, Josep Borel and the Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, lasted over four hours. As Josep Borel clarified in statements he made a while ago, “today together with the EU Special Envoy, Mr. Lajčak, we spent more than four hours, first with Prime Minister Kurti then with President Vucic, in separate meetings – there were no joint meetings – trying to find a solution or at least move forward”.

“We are facing a crisis and we thank them both for coming to Brussels in an effort to seek de-escalation,” he noted.

The High Representative said the EU’s “clear expectations” were presented to both sides, calling on Pristina to end police operations on municipal buildings in northern Kosovo, and asking Belgrade to remove Serb protesters.

Finally, Josep Borel emphasized that “the core of the solution” to the problem is “new elections with full participation”.
