In a ceremony held yesterday in Brussels in the presence of Commissioner Eliza Ferreira, the 15 winners of this year’s New European Bauhaus Award were announced, as well as the 14 projects selected within the framework of the European Urban Initiative.

The New European Bauhaus Awards are being presented for the third year and the winners come from every corner of Europe, from Spain to Denmark and from Lithuania to Montenegro.

These awards recognize inspiring existing projects, but also the ideas of new talents for a more sustainable, more beautiful and more inclusive Europe. You can discover the winners and their projects here.

In addition to the New European Bauhaus awards, the event also presented the projects selected as part of the call for proposals for the European Urban Initiative.

The projects come from different urban environments of 12 EU Member States. In fact, most of the projects come from small or medium-sized cities. Each project will receive up to 5 million euros in co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, while it must be implemented within three and a half years.

From Greece, the “Rock the Block” project of the Municipality of Aigaleos, which uses the Athenian apartment building as a unit to collectively deal with common problems, such as the lack and low quality of housing and weak social ties, was selected for funding with 3,280,920 euros. through an innovative tool of urban policy, technical transformations and renovations, as well as the provision of support and upskilling.
