London, Thanasis Gavos
The Prime Minister of the decentralized government of Scotland, Nicola Sterzion, announced the lifting of the restrictions imposed next Monday due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Specifically, from January 24, the capacity limits at public events in indoor areas are lifted, the obligation to keep a distance of one meter in indoor areas, the obligation of restaurants to take orders and serve alcohol only at the table and not at the bar, while reopening the nightclubs. The directive for mixing people from up to three different households indoors is also repealed.
Mandatory use of the mask indoors and on public transport will remain in force. The obligation to present a vaccination certificate at events with more than a thousand spectators will also be maintained.
Capacity limits for outdoor events were lifted yesterday.
Ms Sterzion justified the lifting of the measures by referring to the “downward trend” of the epidemiological data of the Omicron variant, the peak of which peaked “at the beginning of January”.
In the past 24 hours, Ms. Sterzion said, the confirmed cases were 7,752, continuing the downward trend of the last few days. In the last three days the cases have decreased by 63% on a weekly basis. He also said that infection rates fall in all age categories.
