“Last night, our police, rangers and firefighters braved us once again rare violence. According to my instructions for strictness, they made 667 arrests” said the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanen.

The president of France Emmanuel Macron will chair a new meeting of the interministerial crisis cell at 14:00 (Greece time) in Paris for the second time in as many days, following a third night of violence in France following the death of a teenager, who was shot dead by a police officer, the French Presidency.

The French head of state, who has been in Brussels since yesterday, Thursday, for the European summit, may cut short his presence there and return before the end of the summit, if talks with his counterparts are not over. He is to give a press conference before leaving the Council of the European Union.

Emmanuel Macron had already convened yesterday morning a first meeting of the interministerial crisis cell with the ministers and directors of administrations at the Ministry of the Interior, before leaving for Brussels. He had reported “unjustified” violence.

The police officer who killed 17-year-old Nael on Tuesday in Nanterre, near the capital, was charged with manslaughter and remanded in custody during a traffic stop after he refused to comply. The policeman apologized.
