Macron ready to adjust ‘no taboo’ enforcement measures
French President Emmanuel Macron is ready to adjust curfew measures after a third night of violence, presidential sources say, as French officials talk of imposing a state of emergency.
The French president, who is rushing back to Paris before the end of the European summit in Brussels and will preside at 13.00 local time at an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis, is waiting for the proposals of the prime minister and the interior minister to further adjust the of “no taboo” order enforcement measures, said a source in the French Presidency.
“All cases,” including the declaration of a state of emergency, are being considered by the French government to “restore democratic order,” Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne said. “We will examine all the cases together with the president of the Republic at 13.00 during the meeting he will organize. Accordingly, I will not answer now. But we are considering all cases with the priority of restoring democratic order throughout the territory,” he said when asked during a press conference about the possibility of imposing a state of emergency.
