The strong message of the Greek Prime Minister from Strasbourg yesterday that if Turkey returns to an aggressive behavior, the European sanctions against it are ready to cause great annoyance in Ankara.
As SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis explains, in Turkey there was a feeling that the possibility of sanctions had left the table after the withdrawal of the research vessel Oruts Reich in Antalya.
“The prime minister of Greece blamed Turkey in the European Parliament and brought up the sanctions paper,” Haber Global television reported.
“The Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to make statements that will increase the tension in the Aegean. “The Greek prime minister stated that they are preparing a list of possible measures they will take against Turkey”, the television network TGRT Haber reports in its report.
Against the background of the challenges of Turkey, which demands the demilitarization of islands and raises the issue of their sovereignty, Mr. Mitsotakis said yesterday that there has been no “fundamental change in Turkish policy towards Greece” and therefore there is a ready package of possible restrictive measures.
“This is why this two-tier approach we have taken, extending a hand of friendship while at the same time we have prepared a set of possible restrictive measures that could be used if Turkey returns to an aggressive attitude towards Greece and Cyprus is still “In my opinion, it is the right approach,” he said.
