The Yavuz Sultan Selim organization and the funds it received through the Erasmus plus program are targeted
The Commission is putting an end to European funding for a Turkish organization, according to a letter co-signed by Vice Presidents Margaritis Schinas and Viera Yourova. The Yavuz Sultan Selim organization and the funds it received through the Erasmus plus program are targeted.
Margaritis Schinas and Viera Jourova respond to a letter from French ministers including Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanen, who requested the attention of the Commission for the organization of seminars by Yavuz Sultan Selim on “social networks after pandemic and the effects on Islamophobia”.
They underline that the Commission, awaiting more details from the Turkish national authority regarding Yavuz Sultan Selim, is suspending funding through the Erasmus plus program, while procedures have been initiated to recover funds that have already been paid.
At the same time, they point out that the Commission seeks to give maximum importance to the respect of the fundamental values of the EU by those who benefit from the European funds.
