What the representatives of the destinations say
The Daily Telegraph “sees” Greece in its new extensive survey of the most captivating destinations for this summer https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/greece/best-islands-greece/.
Evaluating a number of factors, the popular British newspaper selects 20 Aegean and Ionian islands that offer ideal holidays. Starting backwards, the list includes the Karpathos of authenticity. Followed by Chios of perfumes, the beautiful Kythira and Patmos as the island of the Apocalypse which is a “refuge” of relaxation. In the next places are the unique Santorini, the charming Meganisi, the impressive Skopelos of Mamma Mia, the glamorous Skiathos, the established Kos, the Evia of many choices, the historic Lesvos, the picturesque Corfu, Lefkada which is reached by road, the cosmopolitan Mykonos and Zakynthos of walkers. The first five places on the Daily Telegraph list are occupied by the admirable Rhodes, the timeless Hydra, Samos with its rich history and exotic waters, the mythical Crete and Kefalonia which has everything the traveler has dreamed of.
As for the image that is being formed for July and August, representatives of destinations in the Daily Telegraph’s directory tell APE-MPE:
“This year the traffic from the UK market started strongly in May and is expected to continue until the beginning of October. The “mosaic” of international markets is completed by the Dutch, German, Austrian, Italian, Scandinavian and Eastern European markets. The identification with Mamma Mia, the themed musical tours, cooking classes, gastronomy, special forms of tourism and the range of options in settlements and beaches are elements that we present all year round and are well received in Greece and internationally”, stressed President of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Skopelos Ioanna Efstathiou.
“Although June proved to be unstable all over Greece, the forecasts for the coming months are encouraging regarding the development of the tourist season in Samos. It seems that many markets such as the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia and Greece will trust the island of Pythagoras for their holidays this year. In this direction, we highlight through modern actions, special forms of tourism, gastronomy, local products, history, natural beauty and in general unknown and known “treasures” of the destination”, he underlined the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Eastern Samos, Despina Kaila.
“The start of the season in Karpathos in May showed a 20% increase in air arrivals compared to 2019 and 2022. Despite the “ups and downs” that Greece had in June, air arrivals to our island were up 15% compared with 2022. At the same time, the messages we receive regarding the continuation of the tourist season until the end of September are positive. In this climate, we are making an effort to target markets such as the Netherlands, Scandinavia, England, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the USA and Greece,” says Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos Manolis Paragyios.
“The international media respond to our narrative about quality holidays in Patmos. July and August are predicted to be months with satisfactory traffic rates, with interest in new bookings being lively. Along with the promotion actions, we are making sure to upgrade the Apocalypse Island with new projects such as the improvement of the road network, the development of the port, the enhancement of the cruise line and other important sections,” he added. the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Patmos, Nikos Koutouzos.
