Solts and Johnson warn: Russia’s price high if it attacks Ukraine

by

German Chancellor Olaf Soltz and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today warned Russia that it would pay a “high” price in the event of a military strike on Ukraine.

During a telephone conversation last Thursday night, the two leaders agreed “that a new Russian military attack on Ukraine should be avoided. “It must be made clear that, in such a situation, Russia will have to expect to pay a large and serious price,” the German chancellor said in a statement today.

A spokesman for the British prime minister said the two men “expressed deep concern over Russia’s destabilizing actions in Ukraine and said any invasion of Ukraine would be a serious strategic mistake”.

“The prime minister stressed the importance of NATO partners working together to provide a coordinated response,” Johnson’s spokesman added.

US President Joe Biden’s warning to Moscow was also strict.

Critical talks on Ukraine will be held in Geneva today, with the participation of US and Russian ministers Anthony Blinken and Sergei Lavrov.
