A Ukrainian drone strike caused an explosion at an ammunition depot in Crimea today, the governor of the peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014 said, ordering the evacuation of the population within a five-kilometer radius and suspending rail traffic.

“Following the attack by enemy drones in the Krasnogvadisky region, an explosion occurred in an ammunition depot,” said Sergey Aksyonov by posting on Telegram.

“It was decided to evacuate residents living within a radius of five kilometers. In order to minimize the risks, it was also decided to stop the railway traffic”, while “members of the emergency response services were on the scene, in order to deal with possible consequences”, as he pointed out.

According to the statements of the Russian official, due to the attack, the movement of vehicles on the bridge connecting Russia with the Crimean Peninsula had been temporarily stopped.

“The authorities asked those on the bridge and in the vehicle inspection area to remain calm, but also to follow the instructions of the security services,” according to the same announcement.

It is recalled that the explosions that took place on the Crimean Bridge on Monday resulted in the death of two civilians, while part of the road surface was put out of service. The same bridge had returned to its normal operation after the serious damage it had suffered from a similar attack in October.
