The UK government announced that the situation in Rhodes “stabilizes”, and that “the island is overwhelmingly unaffected by these fires.”

The Government spokesman, the Earl of Courtown, told the House of Lords that the UK Government “does not plan to repatriate holidaymakers from Rhodes”as the island’s airport is operating normally.

He added that a team of officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FDCO) and the Red Cross were currently at Rhodes airport.

FCDO’s current advice to British nationals is to check with their travel agent or hotel if they plan to travel to bushfire areas.

More than ten flights to various cities in Britain took place on Monday from Rhodes airport as part of the operation repatriation of the British of tourists who either completed their holidays on the fire-stricken island or wanted to leave earlier.

Major airlines and tour operators Tui, Jet2 and easyJet operated eight emergency flights evacuationin addition to their scheduled flights, with aircraft that had gone on leave to Rhodes.
