by

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been forced to postpone her marriage because of new restrictive measures taken by her government to stem the spread of the coronavirus Omicron strain.

“My marriage will not take place,” Ardern told reporters, adding that he also regretted the other couples who were about to get married and was affected by the new restrictions.

The New Zealand Prime Minister had not revealed the date of her wedding to her longtime partner Clark Gayford, but there were speculations that he was scheduled to take place soon.

Asked by reporters how she felt about the postponement, Arder replied: “This is life’s” and added: of which is that they may not be with their loved ones, sometimes when they are seriously ill. “This goes far beyond any sadness I feel.”

As of midnight, the mandatory use of a mask in New Zealand will be extended and the number of people who can be indoors will be reduced, following the detection of nine Omicron cases in a family that traveled to many cities in the country.

The family returned to Nelson on the South Island by plane after attending a wedding and other events in Auckland, North Island. Family members as well as a flight attendant tested positive for covid-19.

The new measures will be valid at least until the end of February.

New Zealand has not been hit hard by the pandemic, with 15,104 cases and 52 deaths.

The country’s borders have been closed to foreigners since March 2020, with the government postponing its plans to open them until mid-January amid concerns about the spread of the Omicron strain.

About 94% of New Zealanders over the age of 12 have been fully immunized against covid-19 and 56% of those eligible have received a booster dose.
