At least nine people were killed when Russian missiles hit the city Pokrovsk twice last night Monday, while dozens more were injured and apartments and a popular hotel were destroyed, according to latest account of the Ukrainian authorities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that 82 people had been injured and added that search and rescue operations in Pokrovsk, about 75 kilometers southwest of Bakhmut, had been completed.

“The necessary care was offered to everyone. There are two children among the injured,” said Mr. Zelenskiy in his night speech.

Photos posted by local officials on social networking sites show the Druzba (“Friendship”) hotel having taken a direct missile hit and floors pulverized.

Journalists, aid workers and military personnel often stayed at the hotel.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to a Reuters cameraman, two first aid workers were killed in the first blow. According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, 29 police officers and 7 first aid workers were injured in the second.
