At least 12 dead and 65 injured from a powerful explosion that occurred yesterday inside an operation in San Cristobalnot far from the capital of the Dominican Republic, CNN reported, citing the Red Cross, in a more recent account of the tragedy.
Among those who died in the explosion was a four-month-old infant, according to the Dominican Republic’s national health system

The very powerful explosion shook the commercial district of San Cristóbal, less than 30 kilometers west of the capital Santo Domingo, yesterday at around 15:10 (local time; at 22:10 Greek time).
After the explosion, which caused a fire and a giant column of smoke, a four-month-old infant succumbed to “severe brain injury”, while two adults died because they suffered burns on 90% of their bodies, the national health system said.
President Luis Abinader said the disaster caused him “sadness”.
The cause of the explosion is not yet clear.
