The lawyer Sakis KehagioglouArchdeacon of the Ecumenical Throne, hosted a dinner in honor of his ATHP in a central hotel of Trebizond on the 15th of August Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The dinner was hosted by the well-known lawyer in memory of the natives of Trabzon, the maternal grandfather of Ioannis Tsaousis, his brother, the blessed Metropolitan of Zichna and Nevrokopi (1945-1965) Mr. Agathangelos Tsaousis and his uncle Iakovos I. Tsaousis, general Inspector of Secondary Education.
The dinner was attended by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Geron Chalkidonos, Mr. Emmanuel, the Rev. Metropolitan of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, Mr. Ioustinos, Rev. Metropolitan of Smyrna Mr. Bartholomeos, Rev. Metropolitan of New Jersey Mr. Apostolos and the Chief Secretary of the Church of Cyprus Fr. Georgios Christodoulou. The Consul General of Greece in Istanbul, Ms. Georgia Sultanopoulou, and the president of ESIEA, Ms. Maria Antoniadou, also attended. Lord Officials of the Patriarchate were also present, as well as distinguished businessmen from Greece and Turkey.
The Ecumenical Patriarch, after thanking the host for hosting the dinner, handed him a copy of the final thesis prepared in 1919 at the Theological School of Chalki by his grandfather’s brother, Metropolitan Mr. Agathangelos Tsaoussis, entitled “The Greek Church from 1821- 1852” as a student and deacon at the time, which His Holiness searched for and retrieved from the School’s archives. Mr. Kehagioglou expressed to His Holiness his emotion and his thanks for the surprise he had in store for him and said that he is grateful that the Patriarch commemorated during the Divine Liturgy at Panagia Sumela his ancestors, whose names were heard a century later in the place in which they were born.
After the Divine Liturgy at Mount Mela, Mr. Kehagioglou presented to His Holiness the football players of the Trabzonspor team and members of the Hellenic National Team, Anastasios Bakaseta and Dimitris Kourbelis, who received the blessing and wishes of the Patriarch as well as commemorative gifts and images.
Finally, answering questions from journalists, Mr. Kehagioglou stated that today’s brilliant celebration brings to mind a phrase of a well-known writer who wrote: “The Patriarch is the spiritual father of all Greeks, the guardian of our faith and national identity.”
