Akif Chagatai Kilits, diplomatic adviser of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish Cypriot attack on UNFICYP members was strongly condemned by Athens, the UN, the USA and the EU.

According to ERT, Erdogan’s advisor stated today that “the “Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus” is abusing this EU solidarity” and that Ankara will protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people “derived from International Law”.

The Kilic statement

“It was a big mistake for the Greek Cypriots to become members of the European Union representing the entire island. This mistake was expressed at the highest level by the former chancellor of Germany Mrs. Merkel. OK, it was wrong, but the situation is developing somewhat differently, unfortunately, the European Union’s unified approach to other issues related to foreign policy, namely support and solidarity to the EU member country, is causing some negative developments.

Because I am sorry to say that the “Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus” is abusing this solidarity in some places. Of course, we don’t want such a situation to happen.

“TDBK” expresses at every step that it is extremely determined to protect the rights and laws of its citizens and expatriates on the island.

At this point we express that we are determined to protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people deriving from International Law and especially its acquiswhich Mr. President has also highlighted in international meetings.

Many different organizations, different countries are involved today in resolving the current conflict. But here we should see the following: Turkish citizens, TRNC citizens and our expatriates living there have basic needs.

Actually the difference is this: The Greek Cypriot side says it is a “military plan”. We say: “No, it’s a humanitarian project”.

This is about the transport of water, the transport of health services. The most basic right for the Turkish side, the right to move, is being blocked. Because it is a mixed village. It is a mixed village where Turkish citizens live, Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots live.

We are saying something very clear here. This is in no way a military plan. This is a humanitarian project. In this regard, notification has already been made to the UN. It has been said that there will be progress on this. While it is not clear that this will actually serve everyone, the “Greek Cypriot part of Cyprus”, so to speak, keeps bringing the issue up and asking for intervention at various levels, resulting in UN staff there and our “TRNC” security forces to have come face to face. We are working to resolve this in terms of the support we provide.”
