The US ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, on Wednesday handed over Washington’s response to the proposals for security guarantees, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
John Sullivan handed over the answers to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grusko during a meeting with him. “During the meeting, the head of the US diplomatic mission handed over the written answers of the US government to the draft bilateral agreement presented earlier by the Russian side,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, noting that the meeting took place at his request. American ambassador.
Sullivan remained at the State Department for more than half an hour, TASS reported, saying he had not commented on his arrival or departure.
Earlier, CNN reported that the US side intends to provide Moscow with written responses to Russia’s proposals for security guarantees.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking in government time during the State Duma plenary, said Russia would not publish the United States’ response to the security guarantees if such a request were made. At the same time, however, he pointed out that the essence and content of Washington’s reaction will be informed to the public.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on December 17 announced two draft agreements on security guarantees that Moscow expects from Washington and NATO.
