Ukraine will be left ‘alone’ without support from allies if it moves hostilities to Russian front, Ukrainian president says
Ukraine will be left ‘alone’ without the support of allies if it moves hostilities to the Russian frontUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday, CNN reports.
In particular, the Ukrainian president said that the allies helping Ukraine’s fight against Moscow’s invasion would not support Kiev in such a case and stressed that “I think this is a big risk, we will definitely be left alone,” he said in an interview in the national media, where he was asked if the time had come for a transfer of the war to Russian soil.
Zelensky said that Ukraine’s fight to regain its territory has been supported by its allies.
Progress and responsibility for Ukraine on the battlefield “it’s always bilateral”Zelensky said, adding that international partners are part of any victory, any suspension of counterattack, any defensive action and any weakness.
Zelensky also said he believed it was possible to “press for the demilitarization of Russia” in Crimea through political means.
In recent months there has been an increase in attacks on Russian soilwith Russian officials saying Ukrainian drones and shelling are responsible for attacks that have occasionally injured or killed civilians.
Officials in Kiev have addressed the incidents, with Zelensky saying after the drone attacks last month that the war was “returning to Russia”, but Ukraine often refuses to take responsibility for attacks across the border.
