The British health authorities announced on Monday that 32,322 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the previous 24 hours and 57 patients with COVID-19 had died.
Officially, the new coronavirus pandemic in the United Kingdom has claimed the lives of 141,862 people out of a total of 9,334,231 reported infections.
The death toll includes only patients who died 28 days after being diagnosed with the virus.
8,966 patients with COVID-19 were treated in British hospitals yesterday.
Infections fell by 16.6% in the last week, but deaths rose by 8.2%, according to authorities.
The government has lifted most of the restrictive measures citing the progress of the immunization campaign. More than 50 million people, 87% of citizens over the age of 12, have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 79% have been fully vaccinated, according to the latest data. The booster dose continues to exceed 17% of the target population: it has been taken by 10 million British citizens.
