Lavrov repeated Moscow’s claim that Western economic sanctions are hampering Russian grain and fertilizer exports
Russia sees no sign that it will get the guarantees it is asking for to return to the Black Sea deal for the export of grain, which could even happen “tomorrow” if the commitments made by the West towards it are respected, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today after his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
Lavrov repeated Moscow’s claim that Western economic sanctions hamper Russian grain and fertilizer exports. He added that, in addition to the free supply of some African countries with Russian grain, a plan to deliver one million tons of grain to Turkey at a low price is currently under discussion.
Fidan called the agreement with Ukraine “important”. was able to export its grain through the Black Sea but admitted that Russia was making demands on its own exports in order to revive this agreement.
The Black Sea deal, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey in the summer of 2022, ended after Russia withdrew from it in July. Ankara has since been trying to persuade Moscow to return to it.
