A Palestinian teenager stabbed and injured an Israeli and a tourist outside Jerusalem’s Old City, according to Israeli police and emergency services.

“A suspect stabbed a citizen near the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem,” police said, releasing a photo of a blood-stained machete used in the attack. The young man was chased and arrested by the police.

Authorities said he is a 17-year-old from East Jerusalem.

The Magen David Adom first aid service, Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross, said they treated a man in his 50s who is in a “serious but stable condition”. A 17-year-old tourist was also taken to hospital with a superficial wound to the stomach.

At least 226 Palestinians, 32 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian have been killed in clashes or attacks linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally based on official sources.
