A 16 year oldwho was hospitalized since yesterday, Wednesday, in critical condition after the scooter he was driving collided with a patrol car after allegedly refusing to stop in an area near Paris, concluded today, as reported by the French media citing the Versailles prosecutor’s office.

The incident took place in Elancourt in Yvelin near Paris.

As AFP reported and Le Monde reported on its website, four police officers have been detained and two investigations have been launched — one for “refusal to comply” and the other for “unintentional injury caused by a driver”with the charge for homicide.

It is noted that at the end of June, the fatal wounding of 17-year-old Nael by a police officer during a traffic control in the Nanterre suburb of Paris caused incidents and looting that lasted for five days.

THE French government called for calm today as there is great unrest in the country and government spokesman Olivier Veran said investigations are underway to ascertain the “exact circumstances” of the incident.

“Obviously I appeal for calm… I appeal for restraint and careful consideration,” he told France Inter radio station.

“No matter how dramatic a situation is, it requires answers that we don’t yet have.”

THE death of the teenagerwhose nationality has not been disclosed, comes as France prepares to host the Rugby World Cup.

The tournament kicks off tomorrow, Friday, when France play New Zealand at the Stade de France near Paris.
