The founder of cryptocurrency trading platform Thodex, who fled Turkey with his clients’ money, was sentenced to 11,196 years in prison yesterday, Thursday night, Turkish media reported.

Two brothers of Farouk Fatih Ozer, the main defendant, were sentenced to the same sentence by the same court in Istanbul, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

The founder of the Thodex platform, who was wanted by Interpol, was arrested in August 2022 in Albania, sixteen months after he fled Turkey.

Last April he was extradited to Turkey.

The Turkish authorities accused Farouk Fatih Ozer of had made off with two billion dollars belonging to nearly 400,000 users of his platform.

The platform had suspended operations overnight after posting a cryptic message saying it needed five days to process an unspecified external investment.

Thodex had run an extensive advertising campaign to attract investors, mainly promising to offer some of them luxury cars.
