The Kremlin today confirmed what until now had only been speculation that Kim Jong-un would visit Russia “in the next few days,” Dmitry Peskov said.

Specifically, the representative of the Kremlin stated that Kim “will make an official visit to Russia in the next few days” at the invitation of Putin. The confirmation came days after the US National Security Council claimed arms negotiations between Russia and North Korea were “actively progressing” after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Pyongyang last July in an attempt to persuade it to sell artillery ammunition in Moscow.

The US government first warned last week that Kim might travel to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin. Although Peskov did not specify when that meeting would take place, several South Korean media outlets reported earlier Monday that Kim appeared to be already on his train bound for Russia.
