Seven of the ten missiles were destroyed by anti-aircraft defense systems and the three USVs by a Russian patrol vessel sailing in the area.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced via Telegram that the armed forces of Ukraine launched an attack against the Sevastopol shipyard, on the Crimean peninsula, with 10 cruise missiles and three high-speed remote-controlled unmanned marine vehicles.
According to the same source, seven of the ten missiles were destroyed by anti-aircraft defense systems and the three USVs by a Russian patrol boat sailing in the area.
“As a result of enemy cruise missile hits, two ships undergoing repairs were damaged,” the ministry said.
He did not provide further details on the types of ships. Sevastopol is the base of the Russian Navy’s Black Sea fleet and several warships are built or repaired there.
Earlier, the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol said that “according to initial information, a total of 24 people were injured” in the Ukrainian attack.
“I am at the place where a fire has broken out in the southern installation of Sevmarzavad” (s.s. the shipyard of Sevastopol). “All services (…) are on the job,” noted the governor.
Since the Russian military invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, has been a frequent target of attacks, mainly by air and sea drones.
On August 25, Moscow announced that its forces had destroyed 42 Ukrainian drones in Crimea.
