A woman died of botulism in the French city of Bordeauxsince ate sardines in a restaurantFrench health officials announced yesterday, Wednesday.

According information cited by The Shipping Company, the woman who lost her life is Greek, however the French authorities have not released her name.

In the same restaurant 12 other people were also poisoned by botulism, most of them foreigners, and are hospitalized, according to the French Health Authorities. The girl’s husband is also among those hospitalized.

Botulism is a serious neurological disease usually caused by eating food that has not been properly preserved.

The woman who lost her life admitted to a hospital near Paris, where she returned with her husband. Unfortunately she left the hospital, returned to her home, where she died. Her partner remains in intensive care.

Those hospitalized include American, Irish, German and Canadian nationals.

A German traveled home for treatment, as did a resident of Barcelona.

They were all eaten at the restaurant “Tchin Tchin Wine Bar” between September 4 and 10.

Everyone ate sardines that had been stored by the restaurant owner in jars.
