Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defense announced today that it has dispatched a special unit to inspect and neutralize a drone carrying explosives that was spotted last Sunday night in Tiulenovo on the Black Sea.

Tiulenovo, a tourist resort, is located 70 km south of the Romanian border and across the Crimeathe Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014 and now regularly targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes.

“Last night, around 9:30pm, a signal was sent to 112, shortly after 10pm the area was cordoned off by the police and public access and the use of the outside areas of the restaurants were prohibited“, Marian Zesev, mayor of Sambla, of which Tiulenovo is a part, told Nova TV.

The drone was found on the rocks near moored boats in Tyulenovo and was “an aircraft with conventional ammunition”, he added.

At the moment it has not been clarified whether the drone fell at this point from the sky or was washed away by the sea currents.

The website Nova.bg reported, citing eyewitnesses, that the drone was 3-3.5 meters long and that it was carrying explosives.

After inspecting the drone, the NATO member country’s team will decide how to dispose of it, the defense ministry said in its statement, adding that the team was sent at the request of regional authorities.
