The EU seeks to help Ukraine meet its immediate financing needs, with stable, predictable and significant financial support in 2023
The Commission announced today that it has released an additional €1.5 billion to Ukraineas part of the Macroeconomic Financial Assistance package for the country, totaling 18 billion euros for 2023.
With this means, the EU seeks to help Ukraine to cover its immediate financial needs, with stable, predictable and significant financial support in 2023. With today’s payment, Ukraine has so far received €13.5 billion through 2023.
This support will help Ukraine continue to pay salaries and pensions and keep essential public services running, such as hospitals, schools and housing for displaced people. It will also allow Ukraine to ensure macroeconomic stability and restore critical infrastructure destroyed by Russia in its war of aggression, such as energy infrastructure, water systems, transport networks, roads and bridges.
Overall, since the start of the war, support to Ukraine and Ukrainians amounts to approximately 81 billion euros. This includes financial and humanitarian aid and military support to Ukraine from the EU, Member States and European financial institutions, as well as resources made available to help Member States meet the needs of Ukrainians fleeing the war.
Finally, it is recalled that in June the Commission proposed the creation of a special facilitation instrument for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine for the period 2024-2027, totaling 50 billion euros (grants and loans).
