The Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, on the Russian-annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, warned today of the possibility of a new Ukrainian missile attack after the one launched yesterday by Ukrainian forces on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the city.

“Caution, missile hazard! Missile hazard!”, Mikhail Razvozaev said in a post on the Telegram messaging app. “Close your windows well and don’t go near them,” he said, asking those in cars and public transport to take shelter.

A little later he announced that “the danger has passed”.

Razvozaev had earlier announced that “fragments” of a missile fell on the outskirts of Sevastopol.

Kiev claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack

Kiev yesterday claimed responsibility for a “successful strike” on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, in Russia’s 2014-annexed Crimea, as Ukraine seeks to expand the battle on the strategically important peninsula.

Today the Ukrainian military announced that it had killed or wounded “high-ranking commanders” of the Russian fleet in its strike yesterday on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.

“Details of the attack will be revealed as soon as possible and its result is dozens of dead and wounded in the ranks of the occupation forces, including high-ranking naval commanders,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement.

It also specifies that the attack took place “during a meeting of commanders of the Russian navy”.
