China is willing to work with South Korea to promote a strategic partnership, Chinese President Xi Jinping told South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo, with whom he met today, amid escalating tensions in the region.
Xi held talks with Han in the city of Hangzhou ahead of the opening ceremony of the Asian Games, state broadcaster CCTV reported. This commitment to cooperation was made ahead of the planned trilateral talks between China, Japan and South Korea to be held in Seoul on September 26. at the first meeting of these countries in four years.
Xi told Han that he would seriously consider the possibility of visiting South Korea, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported. The Chinese announcement made no mention of a possible visit.
The tension between the two countries increased after that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s visit to Russiaan event that caused outrage in the US, Japan and South Korea.
