Armenian separatists, who surrendered their weapons, announced that they had 213 dead on their side
The authorities of Azerbaijan they announced that 192 of his soldiers and one civilian lost their lives according to military operation which held last week the Baku in Nagorno-Karabakhaccording to a report released today by the Azeri Ministry of Health.
Over 500 soldiers were injured also during Azerbaijan’s blitzkrieg operation in this breakaway region of the Caucasus, which is internationally recognized as part of Azeri territory, but inhabited mainly by Armenians.
The Armenian separatistswho surrendered their weapons, announced that on their side they had 213 dead.
The total death toll from the military operation therefore stands at more than 400.
Alongside Armenian authorities announced today that 42,500 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh have arrived on its territory, that is about a third of the population of this enclave.
Azeri authorities on Sunday opened the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armeniafour days after the surrender of Armenian separatists and the ceasefire agreement reached with them, which brought the enclave under Baku’s control.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been embroiled in two bloody wars over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakhwhich is internationally recognized as part of Azeri territory, but is mainly inhabited by Armenians.
On Monday, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev reiterated his commitment that Azeri “will guarantee” respect for the rights of Armenian residents of the enclavewho they numbered around 120,000 before the Baku military operation last week.
