The Princess of Asturias is following in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe, as well as her grandfather, Juan Carlos
A few days ago the palace of Spain announced that Princess Leonor completed a period of basic military training in Zaragoza.
The 17-year-old heir to the Spanish throne last month began her military training at the General Military Academy where she will remain for a year.
She will then receive naval training with a stint on the training sailboat Juan Sebastián de Elcano while completing her three-year training at the General Aviation Academy.
The Princess of Asturias follows in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe, as well as her grandfather, Juan Carlos, who were trained in each of the branches of the country’s Armed Forces. Once he takes the throne, he will be appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
As “Tatler” reports in the new photos released to the public, the 17-year-old princess seems to face her new duties with enthusiasm and determination.
“I’m happy because I know how much the Spanish people value our armed forces…it’s an important moment in my life and I feel very excited and determined to keep learning and give my best“, he had declared in July.
In the photos during the swearing-in ceremony among 560 cadets Princess Leonor stands at attention holding her newly acquired sword.
The Military Academy follows a strict schedule during the week, with the princess free unless she is on an exercise at the weekends.
