The lucky winner – who had bought the winning ticket in Florida – won $1.6 billion. It is the second largest amount awarded in the history of any US lottery.
The super-lucky winner who last month won the second-biggest jackpot in US lottery history has emerged, lottery organizers announced Wednesday.
The lucky winner – who had bought the winning ticket in Florida – emerged on Monday to claim the $1.6 billion jackpot, seven weeks after the Aug. 8 drawing. There had been 31 draws without a winner before the lucky one was finally found, bought at a supermarket in Neptune Beach, 15 miles east of Jacksonville.
Lottery organizers said the $1.602 billion jackpot was the largest in Mega Millions history, breaking the record of $1.537 billion from 2018. It is the second largest in the history of any U.S. lottery, behind Nov. in 2022 a super lucky Californian won $2.04 billion in Powerball.
The winner of the Mega Millions lottery jackpot can choose to receive $1.6 billion over 30 years or a one-time payment of $794.2 million.
Under Florida law, those who win more than $250,000 in lottery prizes are not required to publicly disclose their identity until 90 days after they come forward to claim their winnings.
The chance of winning the Mega Millions jackpot with a $2 ticket is 1 in 300 million!
