European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said today during a visit to Kiev that Ukraine needs more military aid and pledged continued EU support.

“Ukraine needs more capabilities and needs them faster,” Borel said in a post on X, noting that he discussed “continued EU military assistance” during his first face-to-face meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

“We are preparing long-term security commitments for Ukraine,” the European diplomat added.

Umerov, the new defense minister since early September, thanked Borel via X for his “continued support”, stressing that the meeting was “a starting point for great cooperation”.

According to the Ukrainian minister, discussions on EU military aid to Ukraine included “artillery and ammunition, air defense, long-term assistance programs, such as in electronic warfare, training and locating the defense industry” in Ukraine.
