The death toll from a drone attack on a military academy in Homs in central Syria continues to rise, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights raising the death toll to more than 100 and 125 wounded, according to the latest tally.

The attack took place today while a promotion ceremony for Syrian army officers was taking place.

The dead included graduates of the military academy and 12 civilians, the non-governmental organization said.

“Terrorist organizations” targeted “an officer promotion ceremony at the Homs military academy using drones loaded with explosives immediately after the ceremony ended,” the Syrian army said earlier. He spoke of many dead, including “soldiers and civilians” and “dozens of wounded” including officers and members of their families.

The military said it would “respond decisively” to “this cowardly, unprecedented terrorist attack”.

There has so far been no claim of responsibility for the attack. Jihadist organizations that control parts of Syrian territory sometimes use armed drones.
