The presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emanuel Macron, had a telephone conversation today, the second in four days, in the midst of the Ukrainian crisis, the Kremlin said.

“The exchange of views continued on the situation in Ukraine and on issues related to the provision of long-term and legally guaranteed security guarantees to Russia,” the Russian presidency said in a statement issued after the telephone conversation.

At the same time, the Elysee issued a statement saying that the two leaders welcomed the progress in the talks on the situation in Ukraine within the framework of the Normandy. He added that the two presidents want the dialogue to continue in order to implement the Minsk agreements on the situation in Donbas.

The leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France are taking part in the Normandy squad to help end the conflict in eastern Ukraine between Kiev forces and pro-Russian separatists.
