Egypt warned of “serious consequences” from escalating tensions between Israel and the Palestinians in a statement issued by its foreign ministry and carried by the state news agency today.

Egypt appealed to “show maximum restraint and avoid putting civilians in further danger”.

For its part, Russia is in contact with Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab countries after the new escalation of violence in the Middle East, the Interfax news agency reported citing Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

“It goes without saying that we always call for restraint,” he added.

And the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned what it called the “ongoing terrorist attacks” aimed at Israel.

“Ukraine strongly condemns the ongoing terrorist attacks against Israel, including the attacks against the civilian population in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv,” the ministry said on social media.

“We express our support for Israel in its right to defend itself and its people,” it added.
