Another Conservative MP calls on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign

by

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson should resign, another Conservative MP said today, announcing that he also filed a letter of reproach against the Prime Minister.

Johnson has so far rejected all calls to resign on the occasion of the parties organized on Downing Street in the middle of the lockdown.

“After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that the Prime Minister should resign,” said Peter Aldous, who represents Waveney in the east of England in the House of Commons. “I have never done anything like this before and I hoped I would not have to get into this awkward position. “Although I understand that others will disagree with me, I believe it is in the interest of the country, the government and the Conservative Party.”

In order to activate the process of ousting Johnson from the party leadership, 54 of the 359 Conservative MPs will have to submit such reprimand letters. The exact number of letters submitted so far is not known, but many have publicly stated that they have sent their own.

According to the investigation of the public servant Sue Gray, a part of which was made public yesterday, on Downing Street, alcohol events were organized when the lockdown rules were in force. Gray said there were “serious leadership mistakes” and that some of those events should not be allowed.

Polls show British voters believe Johnson should step down: 69% in a Savanta ComRes poll and 63% in a YouGov poll.
