Emmanuel Macron called the killing of the school teacher a terrorist attack in France.

The French president added that police had helped prevent another attempted attack elsewhere in France today.

The knife attack took place at Gabeta high school in Aras, in the north of the country. Two other people were injured in the attack.

“The teacher who was killed was there to protect others and without a doubt he had saved many lives,” Macron said.

A suspect, said to be a former student of the school, was arrested as was his brother.

The knife-wielding man Mohamed M., who killed a teacher and seriously injured two people at a high school in Arras, northern France, was known for his links to Islamists and was checked by police authorities on Thursday without, however, being followed up or charged. charged with something, French media reports, while noting that the authorities have been monitoring his phone communications for the past few days, which did not turn up any evidence related to today’s attack.
