Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters marched in central London today, calling for an end to Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The protesters, many holding Palestinian flags and placards reading “Free Palestine”, gathered near Oxford Circus from where they plan to march to Downing Street, the residence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The slogans were directed against the governments of Britain and the USA, because they support Israel.

Belal Stitan, a 22-year-old student, said he fears for the fate of his relatives in Gaza. “Nobody is safe in Gaza. My family is all in Gaza and none of them are well,” he said, adding that he wants to go back and be able to talk to his cousins about “normal things” like soccer and their school performance. “This situation is a huge problem for humanity and what I have to say to the world is, remember that we are human beings (…) I can’t believe that we have come to this point,” he added.

Police had warned ahead of the ‘March for Palestine’ that anyone appearing with flags of Hamas or other organizations considered terrorist in Britain would be arrested.

Earlier, unknown assailants threw red paint at the entrance to the BBC offices, which are located near the site of the rally.
