The man who had climbed a monument and threatened to detonate a bomb in Warsaw’s Pilsudski Square, surrendered to the police.

Private TV channel Polsat News reported that around 2:30 p.m. (Greece time) the man came down from the monument, took off his jacket and surrendered, raising his hands.

A police officer earlier told a Reuters reporter not to approach the square because “there was a bomb” but a police spokesman asked by Polish news agency PAP would not confirm that the man had threatened to blow himself up.

Videos posted on Platform X show the attacker perched on top of the Smolensk monument, which is dedicated to the victims of the 2010 air tragedy that killed 96 people, including then-Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria.

A customer at the nearby Sofitel hotel, which faces the square, said they were asked to leave the building only through the back door.
