Officials explained that this number was revised down after bodies of missing people were found in southern Israel and could still change.
The army also found some of the hostages dead, without specifying how many, in local operations it conducted in the Gaza Strip in recent days.
According to Hamas, 22 hostages were killed by the Israeli strikes. The group had threatened to kill the hostages for any unannounced Israeli strikes on Palestinian homes.
Hecht said that 286 Israeli soldiers have been killed since operations began.
